The Blue Cross animal charity is celebrating receiving a £500 donation towards the care of homeless pets in Northiam. The Blue Cross animal adoption centre at St Francis Fields has been chosen as the lucky winner of a monthly charity prize draw by Petplan, the UK’s favourite pet insurance provider, and a cheque was presented last week by Petplan Business Developer, Marilyn Lloyd.

Alison Andrew, Marketing Manager for Petplan, which offers four weeks’ free insurance to owners adopting a pet from The Blue Cross, said: “We understand what a difficult time it can be re-homing a cat or dog and are glad to offer this extra peace of mind during the first few weeks of the animal’s life in a new environment.  Having your pet insured is an important part of taking care of its future health and it also helps you to contain any unforeseen veterinary costs.”
The Blue Cross is currently raising funds to relocate to a more suitable site in the South East to replace the outdated premises at Northiam. The move will enable the charity to help even more needy animals in a modern facility, while still serving the needs of homeless pets in the Northiam area. But in the meantime, homeless cats and dogs will continue to be taken in and rehomed from the current site.

Maria Marmo, centre manager for the Blue Cross at Northiam said: “We’re really grateful for this donation from Petplan, which is a fantastic first step towards fundraising for our new centre in the South East. We’d also like to remind people that we’re still open for business while we look for a site, so do come and visit us and meet all the cats and dogs looking for new homes.”

The Blue Cross receives no government funding, so can only continue its vital work thanks to generous donations like this and those from its loyal supporters. Money raised will help animals like Reilly, who is a playful two year old dog who is desperate to find a loving new home where he can enjoy a secure garden, lots of exercise and playing with his toys. Ideally, he’d like to be the only pet and continue with his obedience training.

If you think Reilly could be the perfect pet or to see some of the other pets looking for homes, call the centre on 01797 252243 or visit the website: www.bluecross.org.uk
